# VoLTE Devices

<figure><img src="/files/DkMopqXYAXkOFHwD11dx" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Description

VoLTE enables compatible IoT devices to make and receive voice calls over LTE networks while continuing to use LTE for data connectivity.\
It provides a modern alternative to legacy circuit-switched voice technologies for voice-enabled IoT applications.\
Availability depends on the device, modem firmware, SIM profile, and the mobile network available in the deployment region.

### What is VoLTE?

VoLTE, or **Voice over LTE**, is a technology that enables voice calls to be carried over an LTE network using the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).

Unlike traditional cellular voice services that rely on circuit-switched networks, VoLTE uses the LTE packet network for voice communication.

A device registering successfully on an LTE network does not necessarily mean that VoLTE is available. To use VoLTE, the device must also successfully register with the IMS network and meet the required device and network configuration.

#### Features

* Native voice calling over supported LTE networks
* Voice and data connectivity over LTE
* Suitable for voice-enabled IoT applications
* Reduced dependency on legacy circuit-switched voice technologies
* Support for compatible VoLTE-capable devices and modem firmware

#### Requirements

To use VoLTE with Monogoto, make sure the following requirements are met:

| Requirement | Description |
| ----------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **VoLTE-capable modem** | The modem or cellular module must support VoLTE. |
| **Compatible firmware** | The installed modem firmware must include and enable VoLTE functionality. |
| **SIM profile** | The SIM profile must be enabled for voice services. |
| **IMS support** | The device must support IMS registration and the required IMS configuration. |
| **Network support** | VoLTE must be supported by the mobile network available in the deployment region. |

### VoLTE Network Flow

The following diagram illustrates the high-level VoLTE connectivity flow:

**IoT Device → LTE Access → Core Network → IMS / VoLTE → Voice Endpoint**

<figure><img src="/files/0X84s4XaTqi4KgLh09C5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

After connecting to the LTE network, the device must successfully register with the IMS network before VoLTE services can be used.

### Supported Devices

VoLTE configuration may vary depending on the modem manufacturer, model, and firmware version.

#### Important Considerations

{% hint style="warning" %}
VoLTE availability varies by mobile network and deployment region.

Before deploying a voice-enabled IoT solution, verify that VoLTE is supported by the serving network and that the device, modem firmware, and SIM profile are compatible with the required VoLTE service.
