Billing at Non-Terrestrial Networks

This document outlines the billing structure for data packets transmitted over the Skylo network. Understanding how billing is calculated will help optimize data usage and manage costs effectively.

In the Skylo network billing configuration, each data packet is invoiced based on a minimum size of 50 bytes

The calculation works as follows:

Minimum Billing: Every data packet is billed for at least 50 bytes. For example, if the payload is 8 bytes, resulting in a message size of 36 bytes, the billing will be for a 50-byte packet.

Larger Packet Than Minimum: If the payload is 50 bytes, resulting in a message size of 78 bytes, the billing will not be based on the actual message size (78 bytes), but rather on the nearest multiple of 50 bytes, i.e., 100 bytes, which counts as two billing units.

Max size of data packet: 1024 bytes

Median Latency: ~ 10 seconds

VPN Impact on Data Transmission Costs and Performance

In VPN networks, the device's IP addresses are part of the same network. This allows better identification and visibility of devices within the same network, reducing the need for additional identification data in the transmission packets. As a result, the packet size is reduced, which helps to lower transmission costs and improve network performance.
