# Things

A “Thing” is an IoT device or a mobile phone used by a real person and generated from a SIM card. The SIM card connectivity enables customers to control the policy and behavior of each Thing.  

Things can be grouped into different categories such as light sensors, gas meters and mobile phones etc. Each Things Group can be assigned to a specific department or unit within the organization. 

Things Groups are assigned various settings such as network, security, access control, alerts, users and these settings apply to all Things in the group.
